Debbie McCarty Named New WIA Director
Before starting as WIA director in February 2009, at the Barren River Area Development District, Debbie McCarty held the position as director of the Area Agency on Aging at BRADD.
Debbie helped shape the strategy that produced easier access to community resources for seniors, caregivers, and adults with severe and persistent illnesses, providing information about long-term care services.

Debbie began her career with BRADD in May 1989 under the direction of Gene Becker in economic development. Later that same year, Gene suggested that she position herself as an applicant to become the director of Aging. She held that position until recently.
As WIA director, Debbie replaces George Leamon, who left BRADD to procure a position with Bluegrass Area Development District in Lexington, Ky. Since coming on-board with WIA, Debbie has been very effective, along with BRWIB members, in implementing “new approaches” and “fresh ideas” with regard to the current economic conditions at the regional level. Debbie brings with her a robust work ethic with enormous enthusiasm for the challenges ahead.
She earned her B.S.W. degree from Murray State University, and a M.A. in communications from Western Kentucky University.
Debbie and husband Jon, along their beloved pets, “Moonshine”, “Socks”, “Isabella, and “Monster” reside in Bowling Green, KY. |
